PLAR Pathway Competency-based Self-Assessment Tool

This self-assessment tool is designed to help you understand the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to be successful on the competency-based portfolio assessment conducted as part of the PLAR Pathway for credentialing. It allows you to assess your own knowledge and skills against the competency requirements, helping you make an informed decision as to whether this pathway is the right option for you at this time or in the future.

At the end of the self-assessment, you will receive a score along with a recommendation on your readiness to apply for credentialing through the PLAR Pathway. You should carefully consider this recommendation, but the decision to apply is yours. If you choose to proceed, please note that completing the self-assessment does not guarantee a successful credentialing or registration outcome.

Please complete this self-assessment carefully, thoughtfully, and honestly. Your results can be used to:

Gauge how your current knowledge and skills compare to those required of an approved dental technology program in Canada, so you can make an informed decision about your readiness to apply for credentialling through the PLAR Pathway.
Identify any gaps in knowledge or skills that may require additional learning or experience before applying for credentialing through the PLAR Pathway.
Measure your progress toward meeting the requirements to apply for credentialing through the PLAR Pathway.

Note for Alberta Applicants

You will be presented with a series of competencies and performance indicators and asked to rate your level of experience along a five-point rating scale. The competencies and performance indicators you see were obtained from the National Entry-to-Practice Competencies document that is used to guide the profession. The same competencies and performance indicators will be used during the competency-based portfolio assessment.

If your application for the PLAR Pathway is approved, you will be required to compile and submit a portfolio that includes evidence showing you have met the competencies at the level you are claiming.
