What are competencies and performance indicators?
Competencies tell us what knowledge, skills and attitudes are required in order to perform the role of a Registered Dental Technologist/Technician at a level required of the profession in Canada.
Performance indicators describe each competency more specifically by telling us how each competency should be demonstrated. Performance indicators provide measurable and observable details associated with each competency. Below is an example of this:
Competency
1.1. Demonstrate knowledge of biology and neck anatomy related to dental technology practice.
Performance Indicators
1.1.a Identify basic biological systems and their function relevant to dental technology.
1.1.b Identify the basic elements of human anatomy, physiology, and pathology relevant to dental technology and appliances.
1.1.c Identify the craniofacial anatomy to provide the working boundaries of dental prostheses and appliances.
